Three Extracurriculars Where Invisalign Shines

As you prepare to send your children back to school, you probably have a set of lists: final summer activities to do, supplies to purchase, lunches to try, forms to fill out, dates to put on your calendar, doctor appointments to go to.

Hopefully, you’ve made arrangements to have their teeth cleaned and checked before the year starts, or soon thereafter.  But what about your teen who needs braces this year? When it comes to orthodontics for busy high schoolers, Invisalign might be a better choice, especially for an active teen!

There are three kinds of extracurriculars that Invisalign will work better for, and we bet your teen is involved in one of them!

On the field.  Sports-loving teens can keep playing and not worry about extra mouth injuries because of metal braces. Invisalign trays can be removed for practices and games and a sports guard may be worn to protect the teeth from injury.  Even if they keep the trays in their mouth, there is no need to be concerned. Since the aligners are smooth, they won’t cut the lips or gums the way braces can when the mouth gets hit during a game or practice. We recommend keeping the previous trays though, in case a tray is somehow broken during an activity. The old aligner will help hold the teeth in place until the replacement can be made.

In the band hall. Playing a horn or a woodwind instrument with braces is a special kind of difficult. Sure, there are kids that can do it, but the insides of their lips and cheeks are frequently irritated, or they go through orthodontic wax quicker than an oboe player goes through reeds, (which is to say, very fast!) With Invisalign, the trays can be removed to play, though they don’t have to be. And there’s no danger of damaging their mouths or the equipment you’re paying for them to usre!

In the public eye. Popular movies and shows glamorize high school and make students look more involved in the adult world than in reality. It is true, though, that some students are more in the public eye than others. Class presidents, cheerleaders, thespians, and the chorus all perform in front of people.  Pictures are inevitable. Wearing Invisalign, your teen won’t have to worry about having a metallic smile in the yearbook’s formal, candid pictures, or having their braces be visible to anyone.

Invisalign For Raleigh Teens

Plastic aligner braces make orthodontic treatment much easier. There’s no risk of abrasion during sports or music, and little chance of being noticed during public speaking or performing.  Additionally, with their cooperation in hygiene, your teen’s teeth and gums can be healthier at the end of their treatment.
